Design and technology 
As part of our making sliders topic, we have been researching different types of sliders. We looked at how they are used in pop-up books, drawers, curtain rails, train tracks and rollercoasters. We used what we found out to help us make our own sliders.

After learning about the Hindu festival ‘Diwali’ the children created some Rangoli patterns using watercolours.  They learnt that the patterns can be placed outside homes to welcome visitors and to bring good luck.

Year 3 have been learning all about soil horizons, rocks and the various properties within different types of soil. Children took spades and sieves to see what was in the soil. They saw the different layers and found some interesting creatures within the humus as well as plenty of decaying leaves…

In maths, we have been studying prime numbers. To help us grasp this concept, we created arrays using counters. We found that if we can only form 2 arrays for a number, then it has just 2 factors: 1 and itself, which means it is a prime number.

Today in science, we explored reversible changes. We learned that if a change is reversible, it’s a physical change because no new substance is formed. We melted ice cubes to make water and then froze the water again to demonstrate this concept.

Representatives from Y5and 6 attended a football tournament yesterday. They practiced skills then enjoyed playing some matches. They all worked well as a team and exemplified the School Games Values. 

Congratulations to Y5/6 children who took part in a netball tournament today. They all practiced the skills they have been learning and enjoyed playing some matches. 

At St. Bridget’s, we hold the school games values of honesty, teamwork, passion, respect, self-belief, determination, and eco-friendliness in high regard. Over the past few weeks in our PE lessons, these children have truly exemplified these values.
