Year 5

We have been learning about the importance of taking time to talk about life online. We discussed what worries us, what we should do about it and if we had the power to fix one online safety issue what would it be and how would we do it.

KS2 took part in the NSPCC Times Table Rock Star challenge today. They all tried very hard to be the winning class with the highest number of correct answers per pupil. The speed and recall of some of the pupils was very impressive! A huge well done to everyone.

Year 5 enjoyed recreating freeze frame scenes from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. We  then tried to guess which scene it was. 
 

Year 5 took part in a x- country event at St. Benedict’s today. We all ran 2km and our average time was worked out. In June we will return to St. Benedict’s to run the same course and we will see if we can improve our time. We hope to get lots of training in before then so we can knock some time…

Congratulations to all our footballers who represented the school in a tournament against other local schools. They all had a great time and enjoyed putting the skills they have been learning in PE  into practice.

Year 5 have enjoyed making flatbread and Smorrebrod in design and technology. They learnt that Smorrebrod is a type of Danish open sandwich made on rye bread with a variety of toppings in order to provide you with lots of nutrients. 
 

In maths we have been finding factors of numbers. We made arrays with counters to help understand this. We learnt that numbers that only have 2 factors , 1 and the number itself, are called Prime Numbers. 

Year 5 visited Egremont library to choose a book. They read the blurb to find out what the book was about to help them decide whether to choose it or not. If they were putting a book back they learnt the importance of placing it back with the spine facing out. They checked their books out then…

Year 5 braved the wet weather this week to either walk the whole or part of the way to school in order to take part in Active Feet First. They were all rewarded with a high viz slap band.
