Year 5

Year 5 have been learning how to write 4 figure grid references and how to use them. They used their skills to find exact locations of different places.

As part of our work during anti- bullying week Year 5 designed an anti- bullying Superhero. They thought about how their Superhero’s powers would stop bullies, how they would protect the vulnerable and what they stand up for. 
 

Year 5 had a fantastic day at the Beacon studying Chardin’s painting of ‘The House of Cards’ which is on loan from the National Art Gallery. We practiced building a house of cards like the boy in the painting and soon discovered how tricky this is. We then designed our own playing…

Our netballers had a fantastic morning of coaching learning lots of new passing, footwork and shooting skills. 
 

Year 5 have had an amazing day at Walby Farm Park. We explored the Castle, visited the animals in the barn, had fun on the outdoor park then conquered our fears on the slides in the play barn! 
 

Year 5 have been learning how to do counter balances in gymnastics. They learnt the importance of a good hand grip and pulling or pushing against their partner. It was harder than they thought!
 

Year 5 designed and made a ‘Marble Run’ on our design and technology day. They used junk materials and enjoyed the challenge of  re-designing their models in order to ensure the marble could run through freely. 

The activity for this week was to build a sculpture that represented ‘Hopes’ for Year 6.  The children were unanimous in that they wanted challenge, calm and fun!

Year 5 dressed in green to raise awareness of the importance of nature in keeping us happy and healthy. We talked about how nature can help with our mental health and heard lots of lovely stories of the things we do outdoors. We wrote these down and made a class poster so everyone can enjoy…

Year 5 enjoyed collecting items from nature to create their own ‘Nature Collages’. We discussed how being outdoors and appreciating the wonders of nature help us feel happier. 
 

Y5 have been learning about levers in science and how useful they are in everyday life. We made catapults to learn how levers work and had a competition to see who could project a marshmallow the furthest distance. 
 

Some of our Y5 girls acted out the story of the crucifixion in Prayer and Liturgy. We all had time to think about the sacrifice Jesus made for us and reflected on sacrifices we make in our lives for others.
