Year 4 have been learning different types of stitches. They first created a design in their sketch books, thinking about the use of different colours which complement one another. We have learned that stitching requires a lot of patience!

Year 4 have learning about the human digestive system. They have learned to identify and name all the parts and can explain the process of digestion using scientific vocabulary. Finally, they enjoyed making a working model of the digestive system.

Year 4 observed artist Paula Reno created the illusion of movement in her painting ‘The Dance’. We looked at the use of colour and shape to create the illusion of movement in the skirts and the delicate placement of the dancers’ hands. We then applied these to draw our own sketches of a dancer.

Year 4 have been reading the retelling of the oldest surviving Anglo-Saxon legend Beowulf, as retold by Michael Morpurgo. The focus has been on how to develop and use a rich vocabulary. 

Year 4 learnt about some of the traditions surrounding Chinese New Year. They found out that 2021 is the year of the ox. They then chose some art activities related to Chinese New Year. 

Year 4 have been learning how to create perspective and depth in landscape art. 

Year 4 explored different ways to look after one another’s mental health.
