Our Waves Artwork
This week the Year 2 children used a range of media to make a variety of marks and lines to create artwork of waves. They were inspired by the artwork of Beth Krommes who uses a range of lines and marks in her drawings and etchings.
Children’s Mental Health Week 2022 in Year 2
Today Year 2 have been exploring this year’s theme ‘Growing Together’. They talked about their goals for growing emotionally then created support balloons to show the people who support them in the good times and the other times, so they can grow emotionally.
Learning new ball skills
In the final multi skills session of this half term, the Year 2 children learned how to use a hockey stick to dribble a ball. They ended the session with a short game of hockey. What a great game they had!
Safer Internet Day 2022 in Year 2
Year 2 reflected on what they do online and how they treat others online when they are communicating with them. They worked in groups to think of things they could say online that would be respectful to others then they designed a character for a new game of their choice.
Working as a group
In PSHE, the Year 2 children have been thinking about how they can work collaboratively in different groups and situations by sharing their ideas, listening to others and taking part in discussions. They reflected on the different roles and used what they knew to create rules for future group…
Year 2 Phonics Screening success
Our wonderful Year 2 children have been celebrating their Phonics Screening success with a certificate presentation and the eating of Christmas cupcakes. They achieved some of the best results we’ve ever seen by a class. We are so very proud of them all!
A colourful gymnastics lesson
During the final gymnastics lesson of the term, the Year 2 children were working towards a certificate. One of the criteria was to be able to use a dancing ribbon to create shapes. The children had great fun exploring the shapes they could create with them. What a fun lesson it was!

Poppy artwork in Year 2 2021
Year 2 have spent the afternoon looking at the poppy artwork by the artist Georgia O’Keeffe. They learned how to use chalk pastels to create poppy artwork in her style. They learned how to blend the pastels for a greater effect. They were very pleased with the final result.
Remembrance at the War Memorial 2021
This morning our Year 2 children represented the school at the Remembrance service at Egremont War Memorial. They observed the event with reverence and respect. The class Beacons presented and laid a wreath at the War Memorial that the whole class made. We are very proud of them all.
Living things investigation in Year 2
This term Year 2 have been learning about living things and their habitats. Today they went to investigate the living things that are in our school grounds. They used an app to help identify plants they did not know the name of. The children were very surprised by some of their findings.
