We had the most amazing trip to Keswick Museum. The children’s behaviour was outstanding and they made us really proud showing off all they have already learnt about fossils. We learnt all about the history of the local area and how the landscape has changed. We found out about how important fossils are in giving us information from prehistoric times, before there were people to write things down. We discovered that at different times through history, due to Earths crust moving, Cumbria has been under the sea, at the equator, a rainforest and a desert. We also learnt about a prehistoric sea creature called a trilobite. A famous fossil of a trilobite was found at the top of skiddaw! We have even made our own trilobite fossils to bring home with us.
We enjoyed looking at a massive selection of rocks and fossils and finding out the clues they give us. We explored the museum and it’s interesting artefacts, even playing a giant musical instrument made from rocks.
Finally we had a fun play at the park. We have had a fantastic day. I think Year one will make wonderful geologists and palaeontologists as their enthusiasm and excitement for this topic was shining all day. ⭐️
