In R.E. Year 2 have been learning about Judaism and how they celebrate Shabbat. Today they welcomed Basil and his friend, Bruce, from the Lancaster and Lakes Jewish Community. Basil talked to them about what Judaism is and what it is like to be a Jew. He shared many artefacts with the children and explained how they are used in worship and celebrations. Some of the children tried to play the shofar, an ancient musical horn, which is used for Jewish ritual purposes. Some of the children were successful at making it play a note, to the amazement of their peers. The session ended with Basil writing the children’s names in Hebrew. Some of the children were amazed to find that their names have Jewish origins. What a wonderful experience it was for all!
