Year 2 have spent the day finding out what VE Day is and why we remember it. Along with Year 1 they were visited by one of the parishioners who is a member of the British Legion. She spoke to them about VE Day and the role of the British Legion with veterans. She showed the children photos of how the war was remembered in the past in Egremont and beyond. She also told the children about her work in the community that got her nominated to receive Maundy money from the King at this year’s Maundy Thursday service at Durham Cathedral. The children were fascinated to see what the money looked like and its link to the age of the king who gave her it. Later, in the day the children made their own VE Day themed placemats, which they used during the whole school picnic lunch. How wonderful it was for everyone to celebrate this special event together!
