Year 5 conducted an investigation to see whether they could make the same-sized piece of plasticine both float and sink. They discovered that making it float was much more challenging. Through their experiments, they found that the best shape for floating was a flat one with a larger surface area. This shape increased the water’s upthrust, allowing the plasticine to float.
