Year 5 were faced with the problem of separating a mixture of flour, raisins and sugar. They had to use their knowledge of separating mixtures to work out the best strategy. They soon realised it was easy to separate the raisins by sieving the mixture, but the flour and sugar were much more difficult. They decided to add water to the mixture so the sugar would dissolve and they could then possibly spoon out some of the flour. They did this then left the remaining solution in the sun so that the water will evaporate and they will hopefully be left with the sugar.
