Y5 British Science Day 2019
Calling all Science Professors. A day filled with research and investigations! Firstly, we researched Lunar Buggies used to explore the moon and designed our own prototypes to be constructed. Then we investigated which boat would have the greatest buoyancy and carry the most marbles. Finally, we…
Science in Year One
Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed today learning about star constellations. We thought about how we would have to move if we walked on the moon and what we could see looking out into the stars. We then made some tornados in a bottle as our topic is ‘Weather’. We have had a great time today and hopefully…
Super Science Day in Year 3
We have enjoyed an action packed day crammed with Science from start to finish. Sorry if some of us smell of vinegar tonight but we did have fun. We explored the meaning of dissolving and whether it is correct to say a solid has simply disappeared, it was necessary to eat a little candle floss…
Year 3 Science Week
As part of British Science week, Year 3 have had a great time exploring making helicopters. We had amazing fun experimenting and adapting designs, trying out varying numbers of propellers and different propeller lengths. This inspired lots of lovely discussions about air resistance and…
Floating and sinking experiment
We have had a great time trying our experiment into will it float?
We got lots of items and predicted if it would float. We tested our theory and recorded the results in our books.
Y4 Volcanoes
As part of our topic on Volcanoes Emma made a volcano at home then brought all the ingredients into school to make it explode! She used washing up liquid, bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and red and yellow food colouring. We all waited in anticipation as as it ‘exploded’! Well done…
Is it waterproof?
Year 1 had a great time today testing to see if different materials were waterproof. We dropped water onto each material and discovered which absorbed the water the quickest and which was waterproof.
Y4 ice cube experiment
Year 4 have been learning about solid, liquids and gases. They had some ice cubes with gummy bears in and had to turn the ice into water to get the bear out to eat. We then heated some ice in the kettle to turn it into a gas.
Y6 Microorganism investigation
Today Year 6 carried out an investigation into how microorganisms spread. We had great fun using green paint to represent mucus and exploring the best ways to prevent spreading germs. We found out that washing with soap, warm water and drying carefully was the best way to stop microorganisms from…
Year 2 Science Investigation
Year 2 enjoyed being scientists. They were investigating different materials to find out if they are waterproof. Before they carried out the investigation, they planned what they were going to do and made predictions.
Y4 science experiment
Year 4 are finding out which drinks do the most damage to our teeth. We used eggs to act as the teeth and put them in jars with different drinks. We will leave them for a few days and see what happens. We predicted which drinks might do the most damage and the reasons given were, ‘coke because it…
Year 3 Science Workshop
Year 3 have been practising being super scientists in our Rocks Workshop. They enjoyed looking at the properties of rocks and fossils, testing the hardness of different types of rock and investigating if rocks float or sink. They are developing excellent prediction, observation and explanation…
