This week in Year 4, our scientists had a fantastic time exploring one of the key changes of state: melting. To make the learning hands-on and meaningful, we carried out a simple but exciting experiment using something very familiar… butter!

The aim of the lesson was to help children understand that melting happens when a solid is heated enough to turn into a liquid. To see this in action, pupils investigated the melting point of butter — the temperature at which it changes from solid to liquid.
