Last term in Nursery we introduced Jigsaw for PSHE. We met our Jigsaw friends Jigsaw Jenie and Jerrie Cat. The first topic we covered was ‘Being me in my world’. We practised the rules and routines, and we have come to really like doing ‘Calm Time’. This is where we sit still and quiet, taking deep breaths in and out while we listen for the chime bar. Now, we often use this throughout the day when we need to take a moment to reset, calm down before starting again. We learnt all about ourselves in ‘who … me?’. We then learnt about our feelings in ‘How am I feeling today?’. We loved practising pulling happy and sad faces to show our feelings. We then went on to learn about ‘Being at Nursery’ and using ‘Gentle Hands’. We talked lots about using our hands to help us learn by making crafts, showing numbers and actions in songs. We also talked about what not to do with our hands, including pushing and hitting. Finally, we learnt all about ‘Our Rights and Responsibilities’ where we learnt about all the things we are allowed to do and how to be responsible. We talked about what being responsible meant - being grown up and sensible. To practise being responsible each child was given a conker (from our autumn topic) to look after, we then checked to see if everyone had been responsible and kept the conker safe … which they had!
We then went on to learn about ‘Celebrating difference’, covering how we are all special, what we are good at, our families and the different houses and homes people live in near and far, friends and standing up for yourself. In this topic we have enjoyed listening to the different stories that have helped us with our learning. We can’t wait to get started on ‘Dreams and Goals’.
