Over the last half term we have had a Key Stage 2 group of children take part in Phunky Foods.

Week 1

We started by making some no bake cereal bars. They include oats/cereal, brown sugar and syrup to bind it all together. The ingredients list was in cups. We looked at a few different cups/mugs and decided together the best one to use. After weighing all the ingredients we mixed it all together and put it in a tray to set. While it was setting we enjoyed some exercise out on the yard.

Week 2

We focused on exercise. We went on a walk to Egremont castle. We did take a healthy snack of fruit, raisins and an apple, and a carton of juice. Once at the castle we explored before having our snack.

Week 3

After much debate about what to make this week the children came to the decision to make Oreo cupcakes. Using the same ingredients to make cake batter with an additional extra - an Oreo biscuit. In our cakes we added an Oreo biscuit to the bottom and put the cake mixture on top. While making these we had a great discussion about what is healthy and unhealthy and eating a balanced diet.

Week 4

This week we made pizza, but a healthier version. Rather than using pizza dough we used wraps as the pizza base, a healthier alternative. We then used a tomato base and the children could choose their toppings; cheese, ham, sausage, onion, mushroom and pepper. They were able to practise cutting up some of the toppings to put on the pizzas. Once ready they cooked in the oven (5-8 mins).

Week 5

For the final week of Phunky Foods, after learning about eating a balanced diet we enjoyed a walk to the local park.

Through Phunky Foods we have also learnt how important exercise is for our bodies to be healthy as well as have a balanced diet.
