Our School Choir is in fine voice, practising for an appearance on the CFM stage

as part of Egremont’s Winter Wonderland on Sunday, 26th November.

We’re hoping for a big audience at 1.15pm.

There are lots of attractions during the event, which will end with the Christmas light switchon and fireworks!

We used the themes of friendship and being unique as part of anti-bullying week to create our own calligraphy poetry

Year 6 took part in a United Utilities Workshop this afternoon.

They enjoyed using maps to find local reservoirs and working out how much water the average person uses in a day.

Year 4 enjoyed a workshop from United Utilities this morning. We have learnt all the different ways we use water,

ways we can save water, where our water comes from and how the water cycle works.

We have all made promises about how we are going to try and save water and will keep a

record of how we are keeping them!

Last Friday Reception class visited Egremont library. They thoroughly enjoyed sharing books with each other and the adults.

Year2 visited the cenotaph in Egremont this morning to lay a poppy wreath that they

had made and to pay their respects by saying a prayer in memory of all the soldiers who lost their lives in battle.

What an amazing afternoon we had with the GB and Olympic athletes Peter Bakare (Volleyball) and Chris Kirk (Long Jump)

who ran our sponsored circuits event through Sports for Schools. So motivational and inspirational.

We were very hot and sweaty by the end of it but had so much fun! Lots of adult participation also!

Big congratulations to our poets and public speakers , who did so well at Workington Musical Festival—see the Evening News & Star for photos!

Special congratulations to Pippa Newby, Emily Martin, Lewis Hawthorn , who came first in individual classes.

 

After many, many years (too many to remember!) the old and shabby curtains have been downgraded to dust sheets

to make way for our brand new curtains - the perfect backdrop for all our photos!

Year 4 have been doing an experiment to investigate the damage that sugary drinks do to our teeth.

We left eggs ( acting as teeth) in jars filled with the drink for a week. Look at the results!

We are so excited to take part in our sponsored circuits event on Thursday afternoon and to welcome

Peter Bakare, a GB volleyball player, who represented Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics. 

We hope our children can raise as much money as possible to enable us

to buy PE equipment for school. Sponsors can be collected up to a week after the event.

Year 3 have had a great time investigating rocks today. We tested the hardness of different rocks by scratching them with different materials. Next we made predictions and tested if any rocks would float. We also looked closely at interesting rocks, crystals, fossils and ancient shark teeth. We think that science rocks!!!

We have been very fortunate to receive funding, from The Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Children's Fund,

which has paid for maths equipment for SEN children in school.

Frank Dunnery and his sister Faye paid us a visit today to see what the funding has been spent on.

due to the athlete Sally Scott being unable to attend, as she's been called to Lithuania.

What a fantastic turn out for our Grandparents' Bingo and Macmillan coffee afternoon!

We were overwhelmed by the amount of support shown.

One grandparent said, "It's not that we love bingo, we love the school." 

We raised just over £500, which will all go towards Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thank you to everyone who came and made today such a success.

As part of our curriculum on world religions, we invited Imran into school to hold workshops with the junior children about Islam.

The children learnt about the 5 Pillars and realised that Muslims and Christians hold similar beliefs.

Reception had a thoroughly enjoyable visit to Strudda Farm as part of their topic on the local area.

They fed the chickens, collected eggs, dug up potatoes, watched the sheep

being treated, went for a ride around the fields and watched a dog demonstration.

The children have been learning about Harvest in assembly.

As part of this season we think about those nearby who are less fortunate than ourselves.

We're asking for donations of tinned and packet food which will go to the Howgill Centre.

Wraparound care is £2.00 PER HOUR.
